Transport
The strategic position of Northallerton is key to its importance as the County Town and a transport hub! In the days of the coach and horse the public houses with their long yards provided a staging post for travellers on the Great North Road between London and the North and acted as a gateway to the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales!
Nationally With the advent of the railway in the 1840's direct lines of communication were made with major towns and cities in England and Scotland! Before the Beeching axe a spider's web of branch lines reached deep into the North Riding enabling easy connections to the town and County Hall!
